Finding Validation & Permission in God in your Fitness Journey

January 18, 2023

As a Christian mother, it’s natural to want to make sure that the decisions you make about your fitness and nutrition goals are the best for both you and your family. But sometimes, we can get caught up in seeking validation and permission from our loved ones before we move forward with those goals.

It’s understandable that women may want and need validation and permission from others, for example, financial validation, emotional validation, and decision-making validation.

Here are some examples of these validations:

  1. Financial validation: Women may seek permission and validation from their husbands before making a decision to invest in a fitness or nutrition program because they want to ensure that it is financially feasible for the household. This could include concerns about the cost of gym memberships, personal trainers, or health supplements.
  2. Emotional validation: Women may also want and need emotional validation from their husbands before making a decision to prioritize their fitness and nutrition goals. This could include concerns about how their husband may feel about them dedicating time and energy to themselves, or worries about how their goals may affect their relationship.
  3. Decision-making validation: Some women may feel more confident and secure in their decision to pursue fitness and nutrition goals when they have the validation and support of their husbands. This validation may help them to feel more accountable and motivated in their pursuit of their goals, and may also help to ensure that their goals are aligned with the overall goals and priorities of the household.

But as a Christian mother and wife, it’s important to remember that our ultimate validation and permission comes from God, not from others, not even our husbands.

10 Ways for Christian Moms to Find Validation and Confidence in God for Fitness and Nutrition Goals

  1. Pray and seek guidance from God through Bible study.
  2. Reflect on the way that God created your body and remember that it is a gift.
  3. Trust your instincts and make decisions that align with your values and priorities, guided by God’s principles.
  4. Seek out accountability partners and Christian friends for support and encouragement.
  5. Remind yourself that God promises to always be with you and guide you.
  6. Practice gratitude and thank God for His blessings in your life, including your body and health.
  7. Incorporate worship and praise into your fitness routine, as a way to honor God with your body.
  8. Read and meditate on Bible verses related to health and well-being, such as 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.
  9. Share your fitness and nutrition goals with your church community and ask for their prayer and support.
  10. Practice self-care and remember to take time to rest and rejuvenate, trusting that God will sustain you.

Finding peace in our decisions

When we look to God for guidance and support in our fitness and nutrition goals, we can find peace and confidence in the decisions we make. One way to connect with God in this process is through prayer and Bible study. By seeking God’s wisdom and understanding through His word, we can gain clarity on what He wants for our bodies and our health. We can also pray for guidance and discernment when making decisions about our fitness and nutrition goals.

Another way to find validation in God is to focus on the way that He created our bodies. He created our bodies to be strong, healthy and able to move. We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and we should take care of our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit. By understanding that our bodies are a gift from God, we can be more motivated to take care of them and make choices that will honor Him.

It’s also important to remember that God created us as unique individuals, with different needs and desires. This is why leaning into more of the cookie cutter version of programs to follow isn’t the answer. We should trust our own instincts and make decisions that align with our values and priorities, as guided by God’s principles, rather than feeling pressure to conform to societal expectations or to please others.

fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Finally, we should remember that we are not alone in our pursuit of our fitness and nutrition goals. God promises to always be with us and to guide us (Isaiah 41:10) and we can also seek out Christian friends, accountability partners, or a Christian coach for support and encouragement.

In conclusion, as Christian mothers, we can find validation and permission from God, ourselves and not looking to others for validation. By connecting with God through prayer and Bible study, understanding that our bodies are a gift from Him, trusting our own instincts, and seeking out support, we can empower ourselves to take control of our health and well-being and honor God in the process.
